Historia de la computadora: las "computadoras" han existido desde la Edad Media
El término computadora proviene de la palabra latina "computare", que significa "calcular" o "sumar".
- "Computo" significa "yo calculo".
- En la Edad Media, las computadoras eran un título de trabajo. Estas personas hicieron cálculos, como realizar cálculos complicados para los astrónomos.
- Más tarde hubo calculadoras, las primeras fueron desarrolladas independientemente por Wilhelm Schickard y Blaise Pascal a mediados del siglo XVII. Las personas que operaban estas máquinas ahora se llamaban "computadoras".
- Hoy en día, se entiende que una computadora es una máquina que procesa datos utilizando programas.
Desarrollo de la PC: muchas ideas - poca implementación
- Después de las primeras máquinas calculadoras del siglo XVII, siempre se concibieron nuevas ideas para tales máquinas, pero el problema fue principalmente la implementación técnica de las plantillas teóricas.
- La primera "máquina analítica" programable fue diseñada por Charles Babbage en 1837. Se utilizó para llevar a cabo las cuatro operaciones aritméticas básicas. Ada Lovelace puede por lo tanto contar como el primer programador. El empleado de Babbage había escrito el idioma en la máquina.
- La máquina, que debía funcionar con vapor, no se construyó debido a la falta de medios no financieros y técnicos; hoy se sabe que habría funcionado.
- No fue sino hasta finales del siglo XIX que las calculadoras simples se construyeron a gran escala y se utilizaron principalmente en oficinas en los EE. UU.
- El procesamiento masivo de datos tuvo lugar por primera vez con el uso de máquinas de tarjetas perforadas hasta la década de 1950.
De la habitación para la computadora a la computadora para cada habitación
La computadora tal como la entendemos hoy fue inventada durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial.
- Al principio, los sistemas de procesamiento de datos electromecánicos y luego totalmente electrónicos fueron los precursores de las PC de hoy.

- A mediados de la década de 1950, los relés y tubos, que ocupaban mucho espacio, finalmente fueron reemplazados por transistores más pequeños, lo que hizo que los dispositivos fueran más pequeños.
- A principios de la década de 1970, la compañía Intel se sorprendió de haber logrado acomodar filas completas de estos transistores en una pequeña pieza de silicio. Ese fue el nacimiento del microprocesador y un hito en la historia de la computadora.
Desarrollo rápido de la PC
Después de que se desarrolló el chip, el tamaño de las computadoras progresó rápidamente.
- En 1975, Ed Roberts lanzó el Altair 8800 por $ 397, el primer kit de computadora para el hogar. La computadora no tenía teclado ni mouse. No se pudo conectar un monitor y tampoco había software o programas de aplicación. Sin embargo, el Altair 8800 se convirtió en una leyenda.
- Se formaron los legendarios clubes Altair, y Steve Jobs y Steve Wozniak, los fundadores de Apple, se conocieron en uno de estos clubes.
- Lo que les faltaba a las computadoras en ese momento era software. Esto fue suministrado por Bill Gates con su compañía Microsoft fundada en un garaje. Los sistemas operativos MS-DOS y Windows lo convirtieron en multimillonario.
- Hoy casi nada funciona sin una computadora. Incluso en la vida privada cotidiana, la computadora es indispensable.
